Certificate of citizenship
A certificate regarding the presence or absence of a person’s Armenian citizenship is usually required for submission to the competent authorities of foreign states as part of procedures such as obtaining residence status in a foreign country, acquiring citizenship of that country, and other related procedures.
The procedure for obtaining the certificate, the deadlines for providing the information, the list of individuals entitled to request the information, and the grounds for refusal are defined in the procedure established by Decision No. 1154-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated October 4, 2007.

What documents are required to obtain a certificate of citizenship?
- Application form (to download)
- Identity document or a copy of it
- Passport of a former USSR citizen (if available). In case of loss of the passport, information about it (passport series/number, the passport office that issued it, and the year of issuance) must be provided.
- Other documents and information (upon request of the competent authority if necessary). If the competent authority does not have information on the person’s citizenship, additional documents may be required to verify citizenship. These include copies of:
- Birth certificate
- Parents’ identity documents
- Parents’ marriage or paternity certificate
- Certificate of single mother status, if applicable
- In cases where an adult applies for clarification of a citizenship of a parent who has died, a copy of the parent’s death certificate must be provided.
If it is impossible to submit the above-mentioned documents, a detailed application describing the required information must be submitted.
In the case of a written request made by a representative, the following must also be submitted:
- power of attorney issued by the person (notarization is not required),
- Copies of the passports of both the authorizing person and the authorized representative.
Where to apply for a certificate of citizenship?
In the Republic of Armenia, the certificate is issued by the Migration and Citizenship Service.
In a foreign country, it is issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia or a Consular Office.

Important Note
The certificate of citizenship is valid for six months from the date of issuance.
