Question: There have been publications in media outlets that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe rejected the candidates for the position of a judge presented by Armenia to the European Court of Human Rights. Are those publications trustworthy?

Answer: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RA received the opinion of the Advisory group of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on December 22, 2014, according to which one of the candidates presented by Armenia for the vacancy position of a judge does not fully correspond to the “jurisconsult of recognised competence” criteria.

Given the aforementioned, a decision was taken not to send to ECHR the list of those who passed the national competition, and therefore it could not be rejected by the PACE.
