Statement of the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the CSTO Victor Biyagov on Azerbaijan's aggression against the Republic of Artsakh
29 September, 2020On September 29, the session of the CSTO Permanent Council was held. Before the discussion of the issues on agenda, Victor Biyagov, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the CSTO, delivered remarks.
Victor Biyagov presented the situation resulted by the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh in Arstakh-Azerbaijani in the line of contact, targeting of civilian population and infrastructures by using artillery and aviation, and subsequent provocative actions.
The Permanent Representative of Armenia Biyagov drew the attention of his colleagues to the fact that the Azerbaijani aggression was pre-planned, at the same time expressing his deep concern over Turkey’s unconditional support to Azerbaijan, which is nothing but an absolute violation of international law.
“Abandoning the peaceful negotiations, the leadership of Azerbaijan has chosen its own option of the conflict resolution, by instigating a large-scale war, as a result of which there are already many casualties, including among the civilian population. Turkey's unconditional military-political support to Azerbaijan is of particular concern, which contributes to the further destabilization of the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and is a serious threat to the peoples of the region. Turkish experts serve in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Turkish military equipment is used, including UAVs and aviation. The accumulation of Turkish-Azerbaijani groups on the border of the CSTO member state can not but worry us. We are determined to resist with all our capacities and neutralize the intentions of this Turkish-Azerbaijani alliance”, the Representative of Armenia noted.
Permanent Representative to the CSTO Victor Biyagov also touched upon the spreading of disinformation by the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan this morning, which was aimed at preparing a ground for the escalation of the conflict and aggression against Armenia. “Expansion of the geography of the conflict may pose an immediate threat to the security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia, in case of which we will use appropriate military-political mechanisms directed to the collective response to foreign aggression.”
