Minister Nalbandian met the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud de Boer-Buquicchio
19 May, 2008On May 19 Minister o Nalbandian had a working lunch with the Deputy Secretary General of European Council Maud de Boer-Buquicchio.
Greeting the guest the Minister Nalbandian said that Armenia attaches great importance to its membership to such a respective international organization as Council of Europe. Minister emphasized, since its membership in 2001, Armenia, has being realized its commitments to CoE, and that the major part has already been completed. Particularly, the Constitution and number of laws have been changed.
Minister Nalbandian presented the actions carried out by the Armenian authorities for the implementation of the suggestions of the PACE resolution 1609. The Foreign Minister assured that the authorities are eager to realize the suggestions of the PACE. He also reiterated Armenia’s readiness to continue its active involvement in the activities of the Council of Europe.
Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, on her turn, she has stated quite substantial progress has been made for implementation of the PACE suggestions and the proposals that are on the table are going in the right direction. She welcomed the intention of Armenian authorities to establish an inquiry commission to investigate the events of the 1st of March. Miss Boer-Buquicchio also informed that she would meet the representatives of the opposition whom she was going to encourage to be engaged in the constructive dialogue, and the same message she conveyed to the authorities.
The two discussed also regional problems.
