The meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Ukraine took place

On February 11, 2011 the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with his Ukrainian counterpart Konstantin Grischenko who arrived in Yerevan on an official visit.

Welcoming his Ukrainian counterpart, Minister Nalbandian mentioned that the positive dynamic registered in the Armenian-Ukrainian relations last year creates good bases for the further deepening of cooperation between the two friendly nations and countries.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan and warm reception, Konstantin Grischenko expressed confidence that his visit will give a new stimulus to the thorough development of interaction between the two countries.

The sides underlined with satisfaction that there are mutual determination and every possibility for the further strengthening of the Armenian-Ukrainian relations and for bringing it to a new level.

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of Armenia and Ukraine touched upon the preparatory works of the visit of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsian to Ukraine.

In the course of the meeting issues related to the cooperation between the two countries in the international organizations were also discussed. The sides noted that there is an extended legal-contractual field between Armenia and Ukraine that needs to be expanded by new documents.

The Ministers had a detailed discussion on the issues relating to the works of the Armenian-Ukrainian inter-governmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, stressing the importance of holding regular meetings of the Commission and increasing of its effectiveness.

Edward Nalbandian and Konstantin Grischenko also touched upon the visits of the Head of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) and the Prime Minister of Armenia held this year.    

The Ministers agreed on the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation, promotion of the decentralized interaction, exchanges in the humanitarian sphere and holding of consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Ukraine. In this context, the sides attached importance to the holding of cultural days of Armenia in Ukraine this year.

During the meeting regional issues were also touched upon.

Upon the request of the Konstantin Grischenko, Edward Nalbandian presented the recent developments in the settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue. The sides underlined the interaction that is in line with the position on the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue continually stated by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs within the context of Ukraine's chairmanship in the OSCE in 2013.

After the meeting the Ministers of the two countries signed the Program of the Armenian –Ukrainian cooperation in 2011-2012, as well as the Memorandum on the cooperation between the Diplomatic School of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Academy of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The signing ceremony was followed by the press conference of two Ministers.
