The visit of the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Georgia

The agenda of the Armenian-Georgian relations was discussed in the meeting between Nalbandian and Vashadze in Tbilisi


On June 29, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian, who arrived in Georgia on a working visit, had a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze.

“Since the restoration of the independence the relations between our countries have not been so active and exemplary," said Grigol Vashadze, welcoming Edward Nalbandian.

Ministers Nalbandian and Vashadze expressed satisfaction with the established regular contacts that gives an opportunity to follow the implementation of the agreements reached on the level of the Heads of the two countries, elaborate new projects directed at the development of the relations and exchange views on the issues of bilateral agenda and international relations.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Georgia stressed the importance of reciprocal visits held on the highest level in the first half of this year, underlining the necessity of maintaining of that dynamics.

The Ministers also touched upon the necessity of the intensification of the consultations between the MFAs of Armenia and Georgia. In this regard, agreements were reached to hold the next consultations in September of this year. By the proposal of the Armenian side, an agreement was reached to conduct the consultations on consular issues, as well.

The issues of concern to the Georgian-Armenians and measures undertaken towards the solution of those were on the agenda of the negotiations, as
well.

Edward Nalbandian and Grigol Vashadze discussed issues related to the improvement of legal framework, cooperation between the two countries in
the international organizations, simplification of the procedures implemented on the border checkpoints, facilitation of transportations and energy cooperation, as well as the issues the demarcation of the Armenian-Georgian border.

Minister Nalbandian presented his Georgian counterpart the recent developments in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, particularly the results of the Kazan Summit.

In the second half of the day, during the meeting with the Armenian community in Georgia, Edward Nalbandian presented the current stage of the Armenian-Georgian relations, results of the meeting with his Georgian counterpart and the main issues and developments in Armenia’s foreign policy.

On the same day, concluding his visit to Tbilisi, Minister Nalbandian returned to Yerevan.
