The meeting of the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs with the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs

On November 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian met with the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi, who arrived in Yerevan for a working visit.

Welcoming the guest, the Minister Nalbandian mentioned that the traditional friendship between the peoples of the two countries creates a favorable condition to develop the Armenian-Romanian relations. Minister Nalbandian also expressed hope that this visit would give a new impetus to the bilateral relations.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan, Minister Baconschi noted that his visit is aimed at the fostering of the cooperation with friendly Armenia.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Romania discussed a wide range of issues related to the interaction in political, economic, scientific, educational and technical spheres, the expansion of legal framework and the intensification of cultural ties.

In the course of the talk the importance of holding of consultations and reciprocal visits in the frames of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and inter-parliamentary assemblies, as well as promoting of decentralized cooperation was mutually stressed.

Minister Nalbandian expressed satisfaction with the Romanian authorities’ caring attitude towards the protection of the Armenian community and cultural heritage of the Armenians in Romania.

During the meeting the cooperation between Armenia and the EU and the processes being held in the frames of the Eastern Partnership were discussed. In this regard, Minister Baconschi highly assessed the steps undertaken by the Armenian authorities in the frames of the expansion of Armenia’s cooperation with the EU and the Eastern Partnership Program.

In the course of the talks, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Romania exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. It was mutually reaffirmed that the issue should be exclusively settled through negotiations based on the principles of international law and the proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
