Ways of development of the Armenian-Danish relations were discussed


On November 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbadnian who is in Denmark on an official visit had a meeting with the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Villy Søvndal in Copenhagen.

Welcoming Edward Nalbandian, Villy Søvndal congratulated on the occasion of the opening of the Embassy of Armenia to Denmark and expressed confidence that the first repicrocial high-level political visit paid from Armenia to Denmark and the establishment of a diplomatic mission would open a new page in the Armenia-Danish relations.

Edward Nalbandian said that the establishment of the Armenian Embassy to Denmark is a proof of their intention to further develop, deepen and strengthen bilateral relations.

The importance of undertaking joint efforts towards the intensification of political dialogue between the two countries, the expansion of legal framework, and the promotion of economic interaction was mutually underlined.

Minister Nalbandian expressed gratitude for the support provided by Denmark for the elimination of the consequences of the earthquake of 1988 and the development of the country since the independence.

The sides touched upon the reforms being implemented in Armenia, as well. The Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs positively assessed the steps being undertaken by the Armenian Government in that direction.

The Ministers exchanged views on the relations between Armenia and the European Union and on the cooperation within the Eastern Partnership format.
Edward Nalbadnian and Villy Søvndal discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Ministers agreed on conducting consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

On the same day, Edward Nalbandian visited the Danish Parliament, as well where he had a meeting with the Chairman of the Folketing Mogens Lykketoft.

The Head of the Danish Parliament highly appreciated the decision of the Armenian Government to establish an Embassy in Copenhagen, mentioning that it would open new perspectives for the development of the Armenian-Danish relations.

The Chairman of the Danish Parliament and the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed a number of issues related to the strengthening of bilateral relations and establishment of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Upon the request of Mogens Lykketoft, Edward Nalbandian presented the main directions and priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy, as well as Armenia’s approaches on the solution of regional issues.

In Copenhagen Minister Nalbandian met with Lars Thuesen, the State Secretary for Trade and Strategy at the Danish MFA, with whom he discussed issues related to the promotion of trade-economic relations.

The extensive speech on Armenia’s foreign policy was on the agenda of Edward Nalbandian’s Copenhagen trip in the Danish Foreign Policy Association, as well.

The speech of the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs was attended by officials of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassadors accredited in Copenhagen, journalists and experts.

After the speech, Edward Nalbandian answered the questions. Touching upon the statements voiced from Turkey that during the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols there was an agreement not on all issues, said: ”Such statements at least create uncertainty: does Turkey sign all agreements without final approval or why is Turkey signing them if it does not agree with their contents? ”

In the course of the visit Edward Nalbandian gave a comprehensive interview to the biggest Danish daily “Politiken”.
