On April 5 a meeting was held between the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis who is in Yerevan on an official visit.

Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian stressed the specific nature of the Armenian-Lithuanian relations, which is due to a number of factors: Lithuania was the first country which recognized Armenia's independence and established diplomatic relations in 1991; Armenia's first intergovernmental agreement was signed with Lithuania; Lithuania is the first Baltic country opened an Embassy in Yerevan and so far Lithuania was the only Baltic country, where Armenia opened its Embassy.

Expressing his gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan, Audronius Ažubalis expressed satisfaction with recently intensified cooperation between the two countries, stressing the importance of intensive political dialogue, regular consultations between foreign ministries, solid legal framework, trade and economic cooperation and growth of cultural exchanges.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania had a thorough talk on the issues related to bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues.
The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania discussed the developments unrolling in Europe, the Armenia-European Union cooperation, and the issues relating to the cooperation within international organizations. In this context, the preparatory works of the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Vilnius were discussed.

Ministers Nalbandian and Ažubalis exchanged views on the recent developments in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. In this regard, Minister Ažubalis reaffirmed Lithuania’s support to the peaceful settlement of the issue within the current negotiation format of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

After the meeting, a joint press conference of Edward Nalbandian and Audronius Ažubalis took place.
