The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania

On March 7, the Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.

Welcoming the guest, the Minister highlighted the traditionally friendly relations with Lithuania and emphasized that it is due to a number of factors. Lithuania was the first country that recognized Armenia’s independence and established diplomatic relations in 1991. The first international treaty that Armenia signed was with Lithuania. Edward Nalbandian said the frequent high-level visits greatly contribute to the promotion of cooperation in various fields.

Expressing his gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan, Linas Linkevičius expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the two countries in recent years, pointed the readiness of the Lithuanian side to further reinforce and expand on them. During the meeting the Ministers had a meaningful conversation about numerous issues of the Armenian-Lithuanian relations.

2011 was highlighted by the visit of Lithuania’s President Dalia Dalia Grybauskaitė. The implementation of the reached agreements was discussed.

The need to ensure the continuity, the expansion of the regular meetings of the Foreign Ministers of the two countries was touched upon.

Ministers Nalbandian and Linkevičius also referred to the strengthening of cooperation in international organizations, trade and economic cooperation and defense industries, the expansion of the legal, scientific and cultural relations.
The agenda included discussions about Armenia-European Union relations. It was stated that during these years progress was observed in the process of the rapprochement.

Some issues were discussed related to the preparations of Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius at the end of 2013.

Views on a number of regional and international issues were exchanged.
Minister Nalbandian presented the latest developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, as well as the peace efforts of Armenia and the international community for the solution of the conflict.
