The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to New York started

On September 26 the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian to New York started.

The first point of Minister Naldnadian’s agenda was participation in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Eastern Partnership initiative together with Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Stefan Fule, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy and Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the initiative. During the meeting the preparatory works for the Vilnius Summit of the Eastern Partnership were discussed.

During the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Didier Burkhalter, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland priorities of the Swiss Chairmanship of the OSCE in 2014 was discussed. The sides also had an exchange of views concerning the work and agenda of the organization.

In the Headquarters of the UN Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian signed “International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.”

On the same day a non-official meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization in New York which was chaired by Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in the framework of the Armenian Chairmanship in BSEC Organization.

During the meeting questions for the improvement of regional economic cooperation were discussed concerning the implementation of the 2013-2015 Action plan of the economic agenda of the BSEC, increase of intensity and visibility of the Organization and events organized in the framework of the Armenian Chairmanship. The participants of the meeting also turned to the preparatory works of the upcoming high-level meeting for information and communication technologies in Yerevan on October 4.

The Head of Armenian diplomacy also had a meeting with Alfredo Moreno, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile. During the conversation ways of the improvement of bilateral relations were discussed and the importance of creating legal framework, cooperation in international organizations and consultations between the Foreign Ministries were emphasized.

The next meeting was with the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier. The interlocutors had an exchange of views concerning agenda issues of the OSCE and peaceful resolution process of Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

On the same day in the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with Edward Nipake Natapei, Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Vanuatu. Foreign Ministers of the two countries signed a joint declaration for the establishment of diplomatic relations. After the signing ceremony the sides had a conversation and discussed the measures to be initiated for the purpose of building bilateral relations.

During the meeting with Enver Hoxaj, Foreign Minister of Kosovo, the latter presented the reconciliation process with Serbia under the auspices of the EU.

Edward Nalbandian stated that although Armenia has not recognized Kosovo, such meetings are useful for exchanging views.

Enver Hoxaj expressed gratitude for the service of Armenian peacekeepers in Kosovo.
