Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the reopening of the Embassy of Germany in Armenia

22 November, 2013

On November 22 Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian attended the ceremony of the reopening of the Embassy of Germany in Armenia after the reconstruction. Representatives of the Mayor's Office of Yerevan, Ambassadors accredited to Armenia, heads of companies and German foundations operating in Armenia were also present in the event.

Congratulating the Ambassador and the staff of the Embassy upon the reopening of the Embassy, Minister Nalbandian particularly stated:

“ Germany was among the first countries that established its diplomatic representation in the newly independent Armenia.

I remember that at the beginning, the German Embassy was located in the modest offices in the Hrazdan Hotel, later in this beautiful building, which has now been completely renovated. The German Embassy’s history in Yerevan also reflects the important path that the interstate relations between Armenia and Germany have gone through during the last two decades.

Germany is a friend of Armenia, very important partner in the bilateral, as well as European and international frameworks. Armenia highly appreciates the important and continuous support by Germany to Armenia’s economic reforms and development.

Our two countries have very close political dialogue reinforced by high-level regular reciprocal visits, increased economic cooperation, productive exchanges in parliamentary dimension and interactions between local authorities, in the areas of culture and education.

Meetings that I had just days ago in Berlin with my German colleague, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and other high-ranking representatives, testify to our active dialogue and the mutual desire to continue strengthening, enhancing and deepening our cooperation.

I extend my warm congratulations on the occasion of the inauguration of this renovated beautiful building of the German Embassy.

Dear Ambassador Morell,

I am confident that in this modern building, in these new working conditions the German Embassy under your leadership will continue with even more vigor its efforts aimed at contributing to the further development of our bilateral relations.

I wish you every success and reiterate the full support of the Armenian authorities to your important mission.

Thank you.”
