Postage stamp dedicated to the Armenian Chairmanship in the Council of Europe was redeemed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

25 November, 2013

On November 25 Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian and Minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan redeemed a postage stamp dedicated to the Armenian Chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The ceremony was also attended by Armenia accredited Ambassadors and representatives of Haypost company.

Delivering a congratulating address at the ceremony Foreign Minister Nalbandian said:

“During the last six months Armenia chaired the Council of Europe, one of the oldest and most authoritative organizations in Europe.

Armenia intensively and actively fulfilled the mission of Chairmanship. During the last six months we had an important contribution to achieving the goals of the Council of Europe.

On October 2 President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan paid an official visit to the Council of Europe. The Secretary General of the CoE, Presidents of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the European Court of Human Rights and the Venice Commission as well as the Commissioner of Human Rights visited Armenia.

The agenda of the Armenian Chairmanship included more than thirty events which were planned in accordance with the basic priorities of the Chairmanship.

The redemption ceremony of the post stamp representing the Armenian Chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe concludes the chain of events thus turning the Armenian Chairmanship in the CoE to a constant symbol. “Philatelia” as you know comes from Greek roots of “philos”- friend, and “atelia”-sincere, free. I wish the stamps dedicated to the Armenian Chairmanship continue promote the human values and principles protected by the Council of Europe which are directed towards the freedom of person, equality of people, solidarity, dialogue and friendship.”
