The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian to Tehran

On May 5 by the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif Minister Edward Nalbandian paid an official visit to Tehran.

On the same day the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani received Edward Nalbandian.

Welcoming the Armenian FM the President of Iran said that over a period of 20 years good achievements were made, numerous joint projects were implemented and there is mutual willingness to further expansion of cooperation in relations between the two states.

Edward Nalbandian conveyed the RA President Serzh Sargsyan's message and invitation to President Rouhani to visit Yerevan. The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran asked to pass on his warm greetings and wishes to the RA President Serzh Sargsyan.

The President of Iran and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia stated with satisfaction the developing partnership between the two countries, discussed the process of implementation of joint economic projects and arrangements reached during high-level meetings.

In Tehran the talks between Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian and Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif started in a tete-a-tete format, then continued in the presence of delegations.

Welcoming the Foreign Minister of Armenia the FM of Iran mentioned that he was pleased to receive his counterpart in Tehran and discuss the ways of furthering friendly relations.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception Edward Nalbandian stressed that over the past years it was his 9th visit to Tehran, about 30 meetings on ministerial level were held during the same period in Yerevan, Tehran and other international platforms, which enabled the advancement of existing effective political dialogue between the two countries.

Armenian and Iranian Foreign Ministers discussed promotion of trade and economic cooperation, steps towards implementation of different joint projects. The Ministers touched upon the projects of construction of Armenia-Iran High Voltage Third Transmission Line, Meghri Hydro Power Plant, Iran-Armenia Railway.

International agenda issues were among topics discussed in details during negotiations.

Minister Zarif presented latest developments in talks over Iran’s nuclear program. On this matter, welcoming arrangements reached last November in Geneva, Minister Nalbandian expressed hope for a comprehensive settlement of the issue as a result of efforts made by all sides in anticipated time frames which would serve as an important achievement for Iran, the region and the whole international community in general.

Ministers Nalbandian and Zarif exchanged thoughts on the Syrian crisis and possible ways of its resolution.

The sides touched upon the developments taking place in Ukraine.

Foreign Minister of Armenia presented his Iranian counterpart the efforts of Armenia and international community towards the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh issue, highlighting the importance of Iran’s balanced stance on that matter.

The negotiations of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Iran were followed by statements for the media.

Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hosted an official dinner in honor of the Armenia's Foreign Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the same day Edward Nalbandian met with the Speaker of the Iranian Majlis Ali Larijani.

During the meeting Minister Nalbandian stressed the importance of productive cooperation between legislative bodies of RA and IRI in the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Ali Larijani requested to pass on his congratulations to the newly-appointed Prime minister of RA, his former counterpart, Hovik Abrahamyan and to the newly elected Speaker of NA, the head of Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group Galust Sahakyan.

The sides exchanged views over the issues of bilateral agenda, touched upon a number of regional issues.

On the same day in the evening Edward Nalbandian visited Sports and Culture Center “Ararat”, where he had a meeting with the heads of the Iranian Armenian structures.
