Armenia’s Foreign Minister and Defense Minister took part in the session of the North Atlantic Council on Armenia – NATO cooperation

On May 20 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Ambassadors of 28 NATO member-states participated in the session of the North Atlantic Council 28+1 format which took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

During the session Foreign and Defense Ministers delivered speeches.

In his speech Minister Nalbandian touched upon Armenia-NATO cooperation in different areas, priorities of RA foreign policy, latest developments in the Karabakh conflict settlement process, Armenia’s stance on current issues of international agenda.

Referring to Armenia-NATO relations Edward Nalbandian positively assessed the effective partnership established in the frameworks of Individual Partnership Action Plans. Minister Nalbandian noted that Armenia-NATO IPAP for 2014-2016 which is the 4th in a row is finalized and expressed hope that it is affirmed and implemented soon.

In his speech Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan referred to the process of reforms undertaken in the defense system and in this context highlighted Armenia-NATO partnership.

NATO SG, representatives of 15 member-states in their speeches at the session of the North Atlantic Council positively assessed 20-year-long effective cooperation between Armenia and the Alliance and the achieved results.

Speakers expressed satisfaction with the results of the implementation of Individual Partnership Action Plan, the process of reforms in Armenia, Armenia’s participation in the peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Afterwards, Ministers Nalbandian and Ohanyan answered numerous questions of NATO member-states Ambassadors concerning Armenia’s foreign policy, regional developments, efforts exerted by Armenia and the international community towards the peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict, Ukrainian crisis, reforms in Armenia’s defense field. NATO SG and member-states’ Ambassadors reaffirmed willingness to continue cooperation with Armenia.

Before the North Atlantic Council session, Armenia’s Foreign and Defense Ministers Edward Nalbandian and Seyran Ohanyan respectively met with NATO SG Anders Fogh Rasmussen. During the meeting, the sides touched upon Armenia-NATO cooperation in the frameworks of PfP Individual Partnership Action Plan, exchanged views on the regional issues.
