Meeting of Edward Nalbandian with the UNDP Administrator Helen Clark

On September 29 Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met Helen Clark, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN and the UNDP Administrator who has arrived in Yerevan.

Welcoming the guest Minister Nalbandian emphasized that Armenia highly appreciates the work of the UN Office in Armenia and particularly, the support of the UNDP to the development of Armenia and resolving problems in several areas.

Expressing gratitude for the reception Mrs. Clark noted the intensive cooperation with the Government of Armenia gave opportunity to implement large programs in Armenia and to move forward the Millennium Development Goals proclaimed by the UN.

During the meeting the sides had an exchange of views on the UNDP missions implemented in different parts of the world and the activities towards resolution of global problems, as well as discussed the results of joint programs and perspective projects.

During the negotiations the sides touched upon the important issues of the international agenda and the role of the UN in their resolution. The UNDP Administrator highly appreciated Armenia’s participation in the peacekeeping missions.

At the conversation the sides discussed cooperation between Armenia and UN specialized bodies and involvement in their work.

Both sides expressed a deep concern about the violence exerted by the terrorists in the Middles East, Syria, Iraq. In this context Minister Nalbandian welcomed the resolution adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council last month which draws the main directions of the struggle against extremists.
