The meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Chairman of the House of Representatives of Cyprus

On November 20 Minister Edward Nalbandian met the Chairman of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Yiannakis Omirou, who is paying an official visit to Yerevan.

Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian noted, that recent years are marked by the intensity of contacts between Armenia and Cyprus, and that through joint efforts bilateral relations reached new level and mentioned both sides’ commitment to further strengthen and deepen them.

Edward Nalbandian commended the input by Cyprus parliamentarians and personally Mr. Omirou in the development of the Armenian-Cypriot friendly relations, deepening of the inter-state cooperation.

Yiannakis Omirou, in his turn highlighted that he would continue his activities towards further enhancement of Armenia-Cyprus cooperation.


The interlocutors mentioned with satisfaction that active mutual visits, including state visits by the Heads of States, expose the high level of historically formed friendly relations between the two countries. They shared the view that the Armenian-Cypriot relations can be characterized as exemplary in terms of their mutual understanding and confidence.


The sides touched upon the effective interaction established between the Parliaments, the activity by the inter-parliamentary friendship groups, which greatly contribute to the development of the inter-state relations and the deepening of friendship between the peoples.


Yiannakis Omirou and Edward Nalbandian attached importance to the vigorous role of the Armenian community of Cyprus in strengthening the bilateral cooperation.

The interlocutors touched upon Armenia-European Union cooperation. The sides highly appreciated the cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus within international organizations, exchanged thoughts over the scheduled events on the occasion of the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide.

The sides talked about the joint efforts exerted by the OSCE Minks Group Co-Chairs and Armenia towards peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, and steps by the Republic of Cyprus and international community towards the settlement of the Cypriot issue.
