Cultural week in Rome dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

On March 23, cultural week entitled “Armenia. Identity and memory” on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide kicked off. It was organized by the Embassy of Armenia in Italy, in cooperation with Associazione Italiana di Sociologia-Religione (AIS) and Istituto Centrale per i Beni Sonori ed Audiovisivi (ICBSA).

During the first session of the Armenian week, Ambassador of Armenia to Italy Sargis Ghazaryan, Director of ICBSA Massimo Pistacchi, representative of AIS Maria Immacolata Macioti, Senator, Vice-President of Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate of the Republic of Italy Paolo Corsini, Italy-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Co-Chair Emilia de Biasi and founder of the group, Senator Albertina Soliani delivered messages.

Second session was dedicated to the impact of the Armenian Genocide on the Armenian people. Psycologists Manuela Fraire and Giovanna Maria Mazzoncini delivered messages.

On March 23, in the evening, “The Autumn of the Magician” about Tonino Guerra and “The Color of Pomegranates” by Sergei Parajanov were screened at Trevi cinema. Before the screening, critic Alberto Crespi briefed about “The Color of Pomegranates” movie.

Information. Seminars and conferences on the history and civilization of the Armenian people, culture, evidence of the Armenian Genocide and impact of the Armenian Genocide on the identity of the Armenian people, Armenians in Italy, current geopolitical situation of Armenia are scheduled to be discussed during the Armenian week (from March 23 through March 28).

Simultaneously, special edition of Religioni e Societa journal dedicated to Armenia will be published, and presentation of following books held “Under indifferent sky” by Vazgen Berberyan, “Armenia, Armenians. 100 years later” by Maria Immacolata Macioti, “Pro-Armenia. Jewish voices about the Armenian Genocide” by Fulvio Cortese and Francesco Berti, “Armenians in Italy” by Hakob Manukyan, “On horseback in the winds. Armenian tales” by Sobya Orfalyan.

Seminars and conferences, as well as books presentation took place at famed Vittoriano Museum Complex of the Italian Renaissance in Rome, “Mattei Di Giove” chamber and hall of Istituto Centrale per i Beni Sonori ed Audiovisivi.

The Color of Pomegranates by Sergei Parajanov, “The Scar” by Fatih Akin, “The Lark Farm” by the Tavianis, “Ararat” by Atom Egoyan and “The Autumn of the Magician” about Tonino Guerra will be screened in the evenings at the Trevi cinema.
