Screening of the movie about the Armenian Genocide in Warsaw
02 April, 2015On April 2, the screening of the movie “Sunrise over Lake Van” was organized by the “Armenian Foundation” of Poland at the Museum of Independence in Warsaw, in the framework of the events, dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The event was held under the auspices of the Embassy of Armenia in Poland and Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
Ambassador of Armenia to Poland Edgar Ghazaryan, director of the movie Vahan Stepanyan, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Eugeniusz Grzeszczak, advisor to Polish President Ian Litinsky, pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Poland Fr. Tachat Tsaturyan, member of the National Council of Radio and Television on sport structures issues, Professor Stefan Pastuszka, Editor of Gazeta Wyborcza Adam Michnik, member of Polish-Armenian trade chamber, Deputy Director of “Armenian Foundation” Council Macej Bujosevic, former Ambassadors of Poland to Armenia Victor Ross and Thomas Knoten, heads of Praga and Rembertow regional administrations of Warsaw, the Ambassadors, representatives of the Armenian community of Poland, politicians and public figures, journalists attended the screening of the movie.
Ambassador Ghazaryan and director of the movie Vahan Stepanyan delivered welcoming messages. The latter informed that the movie will be screened in numerous European countries for Armenian and European audiences. The director also added that, one of the purposes of the movie is to show the importance of genetic memory, that wherever the Armenian is, he considers himself as such and is not cut of his roots completely. Before the screening, Vice President of Armenian-Polish Cooperation Community Rafael Amiryan read a report about the Armenian Genocide, its recognition and condemnation, and at the end of the screening historian, Polish political scientist, Professor Stefan Pastuszka, particularly, mentioned, “This is an excellent film, quite moving. Both Armenian and Polish peoples are well aware and felt on their own skin what the genocide is. Our two peoples share common past, which, undoubtedly, unites us”.
The event was widely covered by the Polish media.
