Conference on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Constanta

On April 3, a conference entitled “Armenians between life and death. 100th anniversary of Armenian martyrdom” was held in the framework of Centennial of the Armenian Genocide at the Senate hall of Ovidius University of Constanta. The conference was organized by Local Committee of Romania and the Embassy of Armenia to Romania, as well as Armenian Union of Romania and the Armenian Church of Constanta.

Ambassador of Armenia to Romania Hamlet Gasparian, Primate of the Romanian Diocese of the Armenian Church Bishop Tatev Hakobyan, representative of Archbishop Thomisi Theodos delivered speeches at the conference. Historian, Dr., Prof. Valentin Chiorbea, Dr., Prof. Michael Chirchor and member of Academy of Romania, Dr., Prof. Garabet Kumbetlian delivered thematic reports on the history of the Armenian people, Genocide and Franz Werfel.

Reflecting on the Armenian genocide and unacceptability of denial policy and policy from uncompromising position of Turkey’s successor governments, Ambassador Gasparian stressed the necessity of international consolidation in the fight against prevention of genocides and denialism. In this regard, he highly appreciated importance of clear and special resolutions of the European Parliament, the United Nations Human Rights Council, as well as European People’s Party (EPP).

Speeches were followed by the discussion with participation of Romanian academia circles and representatives of the Armenian community.
