Concerts dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Thessaloniki

From April 1 through April 6 the “Megaron Mousikis” concert hall of Thessaloniki hosted the annual Festival of Children’s Choirs, which on the occasion of commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide is dedicated to Armenia. Armenia was represented by the “Little Singers of Armenia” under the guidance of Tigran Heqeqyan as a special guest of the Festival. The participation of the Armenian choir to the festival was organized on the initiative of the Thessaloniki branch of the “Hamazgayin” educational and cultural centre and in cooperation with the Embassy of Armenia in Greece, with the assistance of the State Commission coordinating the Centennial events and the Ministry of Culture of Armenia.

Members of the Hellenic Parliament, representatives of prefecture, Thessaloniki municipality, politicians, public figures, diplomats, heads and members of the Armenian Community organizations in Thessaloniki attended the concert performed by “Little Singers of Armenia” on April 3.

They performed works by Komitas, Davit Halajyan, Stepan Shaqaryan, Yervand Yerkanyan, as well as those of foreign composers.

On April 4 and 5 the artistic director of the choir Tigran Heqeqyan delivered master classes to the Greek choirs, taking part at the festival.

On April 6 the gala concert of the Festival took place with the participation of eight choirs under the baton of direction of Tigran Heqeqyan. In the closing part of the concert 550 singers united their voices to perform “Erebouni Yerevan” by Edgar Harutyunyan, “Moush” by Stepan Shaqaryan, “Let There Be Peace on Earth” by Sy Miller.

The performance of the “Little Singers of Armenia” and the work of the Maestro Heqeqyan were commended both by the Greek artists and the audience.
