Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Chile condemned Armenian Genocide

On April 14, Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Chile overwhelming majority of votes has adopted resolution, condemning the Armenian Genocide.

The resolution expresses condolences to the Armenian people and condemns Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923, during which in 1.5 million Armenians were massacred in the Ottoman Empire.

The resolution calls on the Government of Chile to join 1985 UN U.N. Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities Decision that recognizes that gravest crime committed as genocide and demands moral compensation from the international community and Turkish authorities.

On June 5, 2007, upper house of the National Congress of Chile, the Senate, adopted resolution, recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

This decision of Chamber of Deputies of Chile completes recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Chile.
