Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide” was held in Yerevan

On April 22-23, Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide was held in Yerevan, in the frameworks of events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centenary, organized by the Central body for Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, National Assembly of Armenia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia; more than 600 parliamentarians, politicians, academicians, prominent genocide scholars from over 50 states attended the event.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered opening remarks at the Forum. His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars Daniel Feierstein addressed the High-level segment. First Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Senior Fellow at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University Luis Moreno-Ocampo, prominent expert in international law Geoffrey Robertson, renowned genocide scholar Frank Chalk, politicians – member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party of France Patrick Devedjian, Member of the British House of Lords Baroness Caroline Cox, Co-Chair of the Armenian-Russian Inter-Parliamentary Commission Nikolai Ryzhkov moderated panels of the Forum.

The sessions entitled, Evolution of Tools of Prevention of Crimes Against Humanity in International law, The Issue of Accountability and Elimination of the Consequences of Genocide; and Parliamentarians against Genocide as well two parallel sessions Churches Against Genocides – Human Life as a Gift of God, and Legal Aspects of Prevention and Responsibility for the Crime of Genocide featured two-day work of the Forum.

“Anatole France” stamp redemption ceremony, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and presentation of books, under the theme “The Armenian Genocide in Literature” were held in the frameworks of the Forum.

President of the National Assembly of Armenia Galust Sahakyan delivered opening remarks on second day of Forum at the session of the Parliamentarians against Genocide.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian summarized the work of the Forum in his concluding remarks. The participants of the Forum adopted the Declaration of the Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide.
