Foreign Minister of Armenia received Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sweden

On April 25, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian received Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sweden (Riksdag) of Armenian origin Esabelle Dingizian, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centenary.

Welcoming the guest Minister Nalbandian mentioned that he recalls with warmth his visit and meetings held in Stockholm in previous November and agreements reached, expressing hope that exertion of efforts by the sides will bring new impetus to the development of bilateral relations. According to the Minister, there is potential, will and readiness for that.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception in Armenia, Esabelle Dingizian mentioned that it is symbolic to represent Sweden in her historical homeland on that important for the Armenian people occasion. Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag of Sweden presented the results of meetings held in Yerevan.

At the meeting, further steps on the development of Armenian-Swedish relations were reflected on. In this regards, both sides attached significance to the opening of the Embassies in Stockholm and Yerevan and fostering of trade and economic cooperation.

Presenting the priorities of Armenian foreign policy, Foreign Minister of Armenia thoroughly reflected on the process of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and placed importance to the exertion of united efforts of the international community towards prevention of new crimes against humanity. In this context the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia expressed gratitude to Sweden for co-sponsoring of Resolution “Prevention of Genocide” initiated by Armenia and adapted in March by the UN Human Rights Council.

During the meeting views were exchanged on regional issues.

Edward Nalbandian presented joint efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE MG Co-Chairs towards peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
