Screening of movies on the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide in Tokyo

From April 25 through April 27, “Armenian Film Nights’ event dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide was held at Uplink theatre in Tokyo, on the initiative of the Embassy of Armenia in Japan and in cooperation with Japanese Committee of Armenian Genocide Centennial Events, Golden Apricot – Yerevan International Film Festival and Ministry of Culture of Armenia. Atom Egoyan’s “Ararat,” Henri Verneuil’s “Mayrig,” Sergei Parajanov’s “The Color of Pomegranates” and Gor Baghdasaryan’s “Neighbors” were screened during the three-day event.

Hundreds of Japanese citizens, including scientists, historians, artists, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Tokyo, public figures and politicians, journalists and members of the Armenian community were in attendance.

Film critic and producer Ms. Chiseko Tanaka opened the evening through presentation of the movies. On the same days article by Chiseko Tanaka, titled “100 Years After the Genocide. Understanding Armenian Reality through Films” was published in the Japanese monthly Nature and Human.
