Foreign Minister of Armenia met Secretary-General of La Francophonie

On April 28, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met Secretary-General of International Organisation of La Francophonie Michaëlle Jean.

Minister Nalbandian expressed gratitude to Michaëlle Jean for making a special statement on April 24 on the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide, stressing that it was an expression of considerable solidarity with the Armenian people scattered all over the world.

Highlighting that she shares the pain of the descendants of victims of the tragedy which claimed lives of one and a half million people, Michaëlle Jean mentioned that the duty of memory is much needed for building future.

During the conversation, issues of International Organisation of La Francophonie activities were reflected on.

Secretary-General commended Armenia’s as one of the most active members of La Francophonie, involvement in the activities of the organization.

In this context Michaëlle Jean attached significance to the forthcoming Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie to be held in Armenia in the fall this year. Thoughts were exchanged on the preparatory works of the Ministerial Conference, discussed agenda issues.

The sides touched upon pressing international and regional issues. Minister Nalbandian presented efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and Armenia towards a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
