Minister Nalbandian received members of the Parliament of the Netherlands

On May 12, Minister Edward Nalbandian received all-party delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the States General (parliament) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, headed by Harry van Bommel, Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs, Socialist Party.

Welcoming the first visit of the delegation of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands to Armenia, Minister Nalbandian stressed that mutual visits on the parliamentary level are important for the development of bilateral cooperation.

Edward Nalbandian expressed gratitude for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the parliament of the Netherlands back in 2004 and attached significance to the continuously consistent approach of parliamentarians to this issue. In this context Minister Nalbandian placed importance to the adoption of new resolution on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in the States General of the Netherlands on April 9.

During the meeting, thoughts were exchanged on the events held on the 100th anniversary of Mets Eghern, the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the fight against denial and steps undertaken by Armenia towards prevention of crimes against humanity.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Dutch parliamentarians highlighted that the main purpose of their visit is to bring their input in the development of relations between Armenia and the Netherlands, as well as to become familiar with Armenia’s stance on regional issues.
The guests expressed hope that the visit by the parliamentarian delegation will be followed by other high-level visits to Armenia.

Minister Nalbandian presented to the guests major directions and priorities of Armenia foreign policy.

At the meeting Armenia-European Union cooperation, preparatory works to the Riga Summit were reflected on.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia thoroughly presented to the Dutch parliamentarians joint efforts exerted together with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement.
