Book Presentation in Riga Dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial

On June 10 the presentation of the Latvian version of Chris Bohjalian’s book, “The Sandcastle Girls” took place in Riga Central Library in the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial events. The book has been translated from English to Latvian by Ilze Paegle-Mkrtcjana.

Latvian Ambassador-at-Large for Eastern Partnership Juris Poikāns, the representatives of The Saeima, MFA and other state agencies, public and cultural figures, journalists and members of the Armenian community attended the event.

Ambassador of Armenia to Latvia Ara Ayvazyan, the director of the Jumava publishing company Juris Visockis, the Head of the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the MFA of Armenia Tigran Mkrtchyan, and the translator of the book Ilze Paegle-Mkrtcjana delivered speeches.

At the end of the event the pieces of Armenian culture were presented to the audience. The professor of the Latvian Conservatory Raffi Kharajanyan performed the works of Aram Khachaturian. The young representatives of the Armenian community performed Armenian poems and modern music.
