Edward Nalbandian met with Victoria Nuland, the US Assistant Secretary of State

On September 27, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, met with Victoria Nuland, the US Assistant Secretary of State, in New York.

At the meeting the sides expressed a mutual satisfaction with the high level of bilateral relations. The interlocutors attached importance to the agreement on the visa facilitation, which has entered into force since January 2015.

Minister Nalbandian and Assistant Secretary discussed the perspectives of development of the Armenian-American economic cooperation. In this regard they outlined the importance of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, signed in May 2015. The sides exchanged views on the upcoming initial meeting of the United States-Armenia Council on Trade and Investment.

Upon Victoria Nuland’s request, Edward Nalbandian presented the process of constitutional reforms in Armenia.

The agenda of negotiations included cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The US Assistant Secretary of State expressed gratitude for Armenia’s participation in peacekeeping operations.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister of Armenia and the US Assistant Secretary of State exchanged views on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Minister Nalbandian presented the situation resulted by the recent gross violations of ceasefire by Azerbaijan. The Assistant Secretary expressed her deep concern about the escalation of tensions and stressed the need to maintain the ceasefire.

The interlocutors discussed issues concerning the fight against terrorism, the developments in the Middle East and the protection of minority rights.
