Ambassador Apitonian’s working visit to Skåne Region of Sweden

On October 6-7, Ambassador of Armenia to Sweden Artak Apitonian visited the Skåne Region of Sweden and had number of official meetings in the cities of Malmö and Lund.

On October 6, Ambassador Apitonian had a meeting with the Mayor of Lund Anders Almgren. The prospects of developing decentralized cooperation between Lund and one of the cities of Armenia, as well as the opportunities of strengthening the academic ties with Lund were discussed during the meeting.

As part of the visit program, Mayor Algren and Ambassador Apitonian opened photo exhibition, dedicated to the Armenian Genocide at the Cathedral School of Lund, which is the oldest educational institution of Scandinavia. The exhibition was organized by the Cathedral School of Lund, the Teachers’ Association of Sweden and Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Sweden.

The educational program of the day was also dedicated to the Armenian Genocide with lectures delivered by Klas-Göran Karlsson, the Professor of Lund University, author of several monographs on Armenia and the Armenian Genocide.

On October 7, Ambassador Apitonian had a joint meeting with the Chairman of the Skåne Regional Council Christine Axelsson and Mayor of Malmö Kent Andersson. The prospects of decentralized cooperation between the Skåne Region, in particular, Malmö and Armenian regions have been discussed. The interlocutors shared views on the possibilities of introducing Skåne’s experience of regional development and cooperation programs in Armenia, as well as on expansion of cultural, business and touristic ties.

In Malmö, Ambassador Apitonian also met with the representatives of the local Armenian community and exchanged views around a main areas of collaboration within the context of Armenian-Swedish relations.
