The 31st session of the Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the International Organization of La Francophonie adopted “Genocide Prevention Resolution”

11 October, 2015

On October 10-11, five resolutions, including the “Genocide Prevention Resolution” initiated by Armenia, were adopted at the 31st session of the Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the International Organization of La Francophonie in Yerevan. The above-mentioned Resolution makes a reference to the OIF Secretary General Michaëlle Jean’s statement of April 24 on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, which paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide and expressed support to the Armenian people.

The Resolution, particularly, reads that the Organization strongly condemns all the genocides and crimes against humanity that caused huge losses to the mankind, and by paying tribute to the memory of victims of those crimes, obliges to undertake measures to strengthen the mechanisms on the prevention of genocides and crimes against humanity.

According to the Resolution, the Organization is also obliged to strengthen cooperation between the states and the governments to end impunity of those responsible for those crimes.

Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs also adopted the following resolutions: Resolution on the La Francophonie as an area of peace, tolerance, diversity, dialogue and mutual understanding, Resolution on Challenges of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Resolution on refugees and migrants, Resolution on the participation of youth in the OIF institutions.

Two of the aforesaid documents, “La Francophonie as area of peace, tolerance, diversity, dialogue and mutual understanding” and “Resolution on Challenges of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)” were adopted on Armenia’s initiative.
