Meeting with Political Directors of the Visegrad Group MFAs

On November 6, delegations of the MFAs of the Visegrad group, headed by Political Directors Ivan Jestřáb (Czech Republic), Levente Benkő (Hungary), Peter Mišík (Slovakia) and Deputy Political Director Anna Warmińska (Poland) visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Shavarsh Kocharyan and Garen Nazarian, Deputy Foreign Ministers received the delegations in the framework of the visit.

Welcoming the Visegrad delegation in Armenia, Deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan presented to the Political Directors the current state of affairs of Armenia's relations and mutual contacts with neighbouring states, as well as the impact of the crisis in the Middle East, in Syria, in particular, on Armenia and the Armenian community. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the opportunities created with the membership of Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union. At the Visegrad delegations’ request Shavarsh Kocharyan also presented the current stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process.

During the meeting with Garen Nazarian, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia the discussions focused both on bilateral and multi-lateral levels of cooperation with the European Union. In this context, Garen Nazarian reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to further develop and strengthen comprehensive cooperation with the European states in all areas of mutual interest, attaching importance to the negotiations on the formation of new legal basis with the EU to-be-launched by the turn of the year. At the guests’ request, Deputy FM also reflected on Armenia-Iran relations.

Thanking the Armenian side for the reception, V4 delegations’ representatives commended Armenia’s commitment to continuation and deepening of cooperation with the EU and reaffirmed their support on this matter. During the meeting, thoughts were also exchanged on regional developments and pressing issues on the international agenda.
