Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia

On November 9, Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia met Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

Welcoming the guest, Edward Nalbandian mentioned, that their meetings in Yerevan, Moscow as well as within various international platforms are held on a regular basis. Minister Nalbandian attached importance to Sergey Lavrov's visit to Yerevan that created a good opportunity to discuss the process of implementation of arrangements made by the Presidents of the two states.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan and warm reception, Sergey Lavrov mentioned that Russia commends the established allied relations with Armenia, cooperation within international platforms and that Russia is interested in the continuation of the development of comprehensive cooperation in all areas.

Edward Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov had a thorough discussion on Armenia-Russia strategic partnership; cooperation in political, trade and economic, military-technical and humanitarian areas.

Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia reflected on the cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of two states, agenda of regular consultations of the MFAs. Issues on cooperation within the United Nations, Collective Security Treaty Organization, Eurasian Economic Union, Commonwealth of Independent States, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Council of Europe and other international organizations were in the center of the attention.

Edward Nalbandian expressed gratitude to Sergey Lavrov for the support of the Russian side in the evacuation of the bodies of the dead from the plane crash in South Sudan to the Armenia.

During the meeting, the activities of the Inter-governmental Commission on Trade Cooperation, active cooperation between the Parliaments of two states, inter-regional cooperation were touched upon.

Thoughts were exchanged on a range of pressing regional and international issues. Settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was in particularly touched upon. Minister Nalbandian highly appreciated the joint efforts of Russia, together with other OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair states, aimed at peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. In this context, Ministers shared the view that the attempts to shift the negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement onto other formats harm the settlement process.

The situation unfolded in the Middle East, fights of the international community against terrorism were on the agenda of the talks.

At the end the meeting, a joint press conference of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia took place.
