Foreign Minister received UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic Development of Asia and Pacific

On February 10, Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs received Shamshad Akhtar, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic Development of Asia and Pacific, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UN ESCAP).

Welcoming Ms. Akhtar in Yerevan, Minister Nalbandian commended the effective cooperation established between Armenia and the Commission over 20 years.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Ms. Akhtar mentioned that the Commission attaches importance to the engagement and active participation of the member-states in finding solutions to existing problems through exertion of joint efforts.

The interlocutors discussed opportunities emanating from regional integration processes, issues of the development of transport infrastructure, regional cooperation. Sustainable Development Goals and ways to achieve them were on the agenda of the meeting.

Challenges facing the landlocked countries were reflected on. In this context, Minister Nalbandian outlined that Armenia adopted a National Action Plan, in compliance with Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries for the Decade 2014-2024.
