Meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia and Minister of State for European Affairs of France

On April 25, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Minister of State for European Affairs of France Harlem Désir.

Minister of State Desir informed Minister Nalbandian that after attending the events, dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Commemoration in Paris the day before, he went to the airport to depart for Yerevan and pay his tribute to the memory of the victims of the Mets Yeghern at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

Edward Nalbandian stressed, that Armenia commends France’s principled stance regarding the Armenian Genocide, and that back in 2001 France had adopted a law recognizing the Armenian genocide. He added that Armenia remembers with gratitude President of France François Hollande’s participation in the commemorative events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan.

Edward Nalbandian presented to the guest the consequences of large-scale military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh and in this context attached significance to the efforts of the international community for overcoming them, exclusion of such developments in the future and creation of corresponding conditions towards settlement of the issues through peaceful means, negotiations.

The Ministers stressed that there is no military solution to the issue. The interlocutors shared the view that creation of mechanism for investigation of cease-fire violations is a priority.

Harlem Désir assured that France, as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, will continue its active involvement in the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

Edward Nalbandian and Harlem Désir discussed issues on the agenda of Armenian-French relations.
