Meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia with Speaker of Majlis of Iran

On June 5, in Tehran Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, had a meeting with Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Parliament (Majlis) of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Welcoming the Foreign Minister of Armenia, the Head of the legislative body of Iran mentioned that the Armenian-Iranian relations are on a high level, and the Iranian Majlis will continue to have its input in their further deepening.

Edward Nalbandian conveyed to Ali Larijani the congratulations and good wishes of Armenia’s leadership on his re-election as the Speaker of Parliament of Iran.

The interlocutors commended the role of Parliaments and Friendship Groups within the legislative bodies in the development of bilateral relations. The sides attached importance to the input of the Armenian community of Iran in the enhancement of relations between two countries. Ali Larijani specifically emphasized that two parliamentarians of the Armenian origin within the Parliament of Iran – Karen Khanlaryan and Zhorzhik Abrahamyan – play an important role in that direction.

Foreign Minister of Armenia thoroughly presented to the Speaker of Majlis the efforts exerted towards overcoming the consequences of large-scale military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh in early April. The interlocutors shared the view that the peaceful settlement of conflicts has no alternative.

In the context of economic development, Edward Nalbandian and Ali Larijani discussed the prospects of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran.

On the evening of the same day, Edward Nalbandian visited “Ararat” Sport and Cultural Complex, where he had a meeting with the Heads of the Armenian institutions in Iran. The Minister presented his meetings held with the leadership of Iran, as well as the issues on Armenia’s foreign policy agenda.
