Official visit of Edward Nalbandian to Georgia

The meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Georgia was held in Tbilisi

On August 1, Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, who arrived in Tbilisi on an official visit, had a meeting with Mikheil Janelidze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

Welcoming Edward Nalbandian, Mikheil Janelidze stressed that the visit of the Foreign Minister of the neighbouring country to Georgia is a significant event, which provides an opportunity to continue the dialogue on numerous issues of mutual interest.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation and the warm reception, Edward Nalbandian emphasized, that Armenia attaches great importance to the development of relations with Georgia in all possible areas.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Georgian bilateral agenda. They outlined the importance of solid legal framework composed of more than 80 agreements, which serves as a basis for the development of cooperation in different spheres. The Ministers commended the continuance of intensive mutual visits and efficient cooperation between the Ministries of the two countries.

Edward Nalbandian and Mikheil Janelidze discussed the issues related to holding of regular consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, enhancement of legal framework, cooperation within international organizations, facilitation of cargo transportation, collaboration in the energy sector and the cultural sphere, decentralized cooperation, as well as the process of delimitation of the Armenia-Georgia border. During the meeting thoughts were exchanged on the preservation of cultural heritage.

Edward Nalbandian and Mikheil Janelidze touched upon the activity of the Inter-parliamentary Committee on Economic Cooperation between Armenia and Georgia.

The interlocutors discussed the steps to be undertaken towards the further development of inter-parliamentary ties.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Georgia touched upon the pressing regional and international issues.

Edward Nalbandian presented the efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards the advancement of negotiation process on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

The meeting was followed by the press statements of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Georgia, Nalbandian and Janelidze respectively.

In the framework of the official visit, Edward Nalbandian laid a wreath at the Square of Heroes in Tbilisi.
