On September 19, while paying a working visit to New York, Edward Nalbandian, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, had a meeting with Stephane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

Edward Nalbandian emphasized that he is glad to meet Stephane Dion - an old friend of Armenia - in his capacity of Foreign Minister of Canada and to continue the dialogue on comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

Minister Dion congratulated on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Independence of Armenia and noted that he will continue the efforts towards the complex deepening of cooperation with Armenia.

The interlocutors discussed numerous issues of the Armenian-Canadian agenda, touched upon the inter-parliamentary relations, expansion of legal framework and facilitation of visa regime. The active role of the Armenian community of Canada in the deepening of relations was mutually commended.

Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Canada discussed issues regarding the collaboration within the framework of the UN, the OSCE and La Francophonie.

Edward Nalbandian presented to his Canadian counterpart the consequences of large-scale military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh this April and the efforts towards the implementation of agreements reached during the Vienna and Saint Petersburg summits, which were aimed at overcoming the consequences of that aggression.
