Solemn concert under the auspices of Foreign Minister of Armenia and Germany

03 October, 2016

On October 3, the solemn concert of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jena, dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Independence of Armenia and the German Unity Day, took place at the Aram Khachaturian concert hall under the auspices of Edward Nalbandian and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Germany, respectively.

Today’s concert was proceeded by the concert of “Little Singers of Armenia” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia and the German Unity Day, that took place in Berlin on September 22 under the auspices of Foreign Minister of Armenia and Germany.

Members of the Government of Armenia, National Assembly parliamentarians, the Mayor of Jena, Ambassadors accredited in Yerevan, representatives of cultural and social sector attended the event.

In his welcoming remarks addressing the attendees of today’s concert, Edward Nalbandian, particularly, noted:

“Honourable Mr. Ambassador,
Honorable Mayor of Jena,
Ministers, parliamentarians, Ambassadors,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I wholeheartedly congratulate on the occasion of the Day of German Unity, the National day of the Federal Republic of Germany. I would like to specifically emphasize that today’s concert of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jena, as well as the concert of the “Little Singers of Armenia” that took place in Berlin on September 22 are both dedicated to the German Unity Day and the 25th Anniversary of the Independence of Armenia and take place under the auspices of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Germany.

The German Day of Unity celebrates the fulfilment of the aspirations of the German people, just as our Independence Day marks the realisation of centuries-long dream of the Armenian nation. The joint celebration of these sacramental days for both nations, in itself symbolizes the close and friendly relations between our nations.

Soon we will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Germany. Certainly, the ties of our peoples are not limited solely to the 25 years of inter-state, diplomatic relations, but their roots go deep into the medieval history and are nourished by cultural and spiritual ties.

Indeed, these historical roots form strong foundations for the further enlargement and development of our bilateral relations. It is not a coincidence that after the Reunification of Germany and the Independence of Armenia these relations have been steadily moving upwards.

The periodical mutual high-level visits, meetings of the heads of our states, as well as the level of the political dialogue have their important role in furthering of our bilateral ties.

The volume of trade and economic ties between our countries speak for themselves as Germany is Armenia’s number one partner among EU member states.

I would like to use this opportunity to once again emphasize the adoption of the Resolution on the Armenian Genocide by the German Bundestag - Germany’s invaluable contribution to the universal efforts for the prevention of the crime of genocide.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Once again, I congratulate the friendly people of Germany, wishing continuous success to it and further deepening and strengthening to the Armenian-German relations.”
