Events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of UN Industrial Development Organization

On November 21-24, events dedicated to the UNIDO’s 50th anniversary, as well as, the 44th session of the Industrial Development Council took place in Vienna. The delegation of Armenia, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Harutyunyan, participated in those events.

At the delegation’s meetings with Taizio Nishikava, Deputy to the Director-General of UNIDO, Philippe Scholtes, Director-General of the Programme Development and Technical Cooperation Division, the heads of other divisions of the Organization, the process of ongoing projects in Armenia, as well as perspectives for the further expansion of cooperation were discussed.

During the meetings, the Armenian side attached importance to Armenia’s interest to deepen cooperation with the Organization. The representatives of the UNIDO, in their turn, commended the successful implementation of industrial, environmental and other projects and the continuous support provided by the Armenian authorities.

Within the framework of festive events dedicated to the 50th anniversary, on November 22 “Creativity show: New stories of old traditions” was organized. During that event, the new collection of “5900 BC” brand was presented, created by the joint efforts of 8 Armenian organizations and with the technical support of the UNIDO project, entitled “Improving competitiveness of Export-oriented industries of Armenia through modernization and market access.”

The project implemented in Armenia was selected from many other as one of the exemplary and most successful projects.

Robert Harutyunyan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, and Arman Kirakosyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Austria, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN and the other organizations based in Vienna, delivered remarks at the event. They congratulated the UNIDO on its 50th anniversary, as well as thanked the Government of Russia for financing the project and the UNIDO for implementing it.

The cultural part of the events included the performance of works of Aram Khachaturyan, Komitas, Arno Babajanyan and Vig Zartman by are Arghamanyan, a well-known piano player, representing Armenia.
