Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Latvia

On November 29 Tigran Mkrtchyan, Republic of Armenia’s Ambassador to Latvia (with residence in Vilnius) presented his credentials to Raimonds Vējonis, President of the Republic of Latvia.

During the meeting following the accreditation ceremony issues regarding the Armenian-Latvian relations and their further enhancement were discussed. Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented his anticipated programs.

President Vējonis lent importance to the activation of the economic dimension in bilateral relations, in that context specifically highlighting the significance of the format of inter-governmental commission.

The interlocutors also touched upon the progress of negotiations between Armenia and the EU over the new Framework Agreement, simultaneously expressing hope that it would be signed in the near future.

Latvia’s President and Armenia’s Ambassador exchanged thoughts on a number of pressing regional and international issues. Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Ambassador Mkrtchyan thanked for Latvia’s balanced position on the settlement of the issue, and also underlined the importance of international society’s support to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship format. President Vējonis reaffirmed Latvia’s stance on the peaceful, negotiated settlement of the conflict in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
