Visit of Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian to Dilijan

On March 18, at the invitation of the Dilijan Municipality and the Dilijan Community Center, Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian participated in the meeting with the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO devoted to the issues of the UNESCO “Global Network of Learning Cities”.

In his welcoming address Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian touched upon the issue of cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies towards the implementation of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the role of education, science, culture and communication in overcoming the existing challenges and the work carried out by UNESCO to this end. He also spoke of the cooperation within the frameworks of various UNESCO Programs, emphasizing the importance of active participation in the latter and the cooperation with the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO in this regard.

Information note: The creation of the UNESCO “Global Network of Learning Cities” was initiated in 2012 with the aim of promoting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in particular the implementation of the 4th goal on education. It is also a platform for the exchange of best practices on learning cities. Currently the network has more than 160 member cities.

With the efforts of the Secretariat of the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO the cities of Sevan, Sisian, Dilijan,Gyumri, Abovyan and Echmiadzin have joined the Network.
