Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia received deputies of the European Parliament
31 March, 2017On March 31, Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, received a group of deputies of the European Parliament, who arrived in Armenia to take part in the observation mission of the European Parliament for the parliamentary elections to be held on April 2.
During the meeting views were exchanged on the preparatory work for the upcoming parliamentary elections. In this context Minister Nalbandian noted that, following the constitutional reforms, an agreement was reached on changes to the Electoral Code with involvement of parliamentary political factions as well as representatives of civil society aimed at further strengthening of public confidence towards the election processes. He added that the Government of Armenia is continuing to do everything possible in order to conduct elections in line with high international standards.
During the meeting, steps aimed strengthening of the Armenia - European Union relations and issues related to cooperation in the parliamentary format were discussed.
Both sides commended the completion of negotiations on the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement /CEPA/ between Armenia and the European Union.
Upon request of the guests, Minister Nalbandian briefed them on the approaches of Armenia to a number of regional and international issues.
The head of the Foreign Ministry informed the deputies of the European Parliament about the joint efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries towards the advancement of the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
