25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia

On April 3, Foreign Ministers Edward Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov exchanged messages on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation.

In his message, Edward Nalbandian notes that the previous 25 years became a period of consistent development of bilateral inter-state relations based on the principles enshrined in the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance and the Declaration on Allied Cooperation.

Minister Nalbandian stresses that Armenia-Russia allied strategic relations are based on a robust legal framework, are featured by a high-level active dialogue, broad foreign policy coordination, constructive collaboration in multilateral international and regional fora, as well as by an effective cooperation in security, military and military-technical areas. Foreign Minister of Armenia highlights the active ties existing between the Governments, Parliaments and various ministries of the two countries.

An efficient cooperation is expanding in the spheres of trade, economy, energy, transport, innovation and mining, important investment projects are being implemented, inter-regional ties are gaining momentum year after year, cooperation in the humanitarian and other areas is consistently developing.

Edward Nalbandian notes that Armenia highly appreciates the mediation efforts of Russia, including as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, towards the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

In his message, Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasizes the significant contribution of the Armenian community of Russia in the strengthening of friendship with Russia.

Minister Nalbandian expresses confidence that in the years ahead the joint efforts at all levels will continue to be directed towards a consistent development of bilateral allied relations.

In his message, Sergey Lavrov underlines that since establishment of diplomatic relations the multi-layered ties between our countries have developed steadily based on historical traditions of friendship and mutual understanding and through joint efforts they have been raised to the level of allied collaboration. A solid legal framework has been created, large-scale investment projects are being implemented, humanitarian ties are expanding.

Russia and Armenia are active participants of Eurasian integration process, both make a significant input in the strengthening of cooperation within the CSTO and CIS.

Minister Lavrov commends that the positions of Moscow and Yerevan on the main issues of international agenda either coincide or are close; according to Sergey Lavrov, the latter is vividly reflected in the results of the recent official visit of Minister Nalbandian to the Russian Federation.

Foreign Minister of Russia stresses that a mechanism of regular consultations have been established and an active dialogue is maintained between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, which allow not only to coordinate positions but to effectively combine our efforts within global and regional frameworks, including the UN, the OSCE, the BSEC.

Minister Lavrov notes that the achievements reached together during the last quarter of a century are key to identifying the further potential of the Russian-Armenian relations in order to ensure the key interests of peoples of our countries, as well as to maintain peace and stability in the Caucasus region.
