Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Georgia

On April 11, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, had a meeting with Mikheil Janelidze, Foreign Minister of Georgia, who is paying an official visit to Armenia.


The meeting started in a tête-à-tête format, then continued with the participation of delegations.

Greeting the guest, Edward Nalbandian noted that the permanent intensive dialogue with his Georgian colleague provides an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues of the bilateral agenda, and to further the efforts aimed at strengthening and deepening the cooperation.

Mikheil Janelidze thanked for the invitation and warm welcome, noted that Georgia considers important the development of multifaceted cooperation with Armenia, emphasised his country’s readiness to make additional efforts aimed at further deepening and strengthening of the collaboration. The Georgian Foreign Minister extended his congratulations on successful parliamentary elections held in Armenia.

During the meeting the sides touched upon the process of implementation of agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries. The sides emphasized that in recent years the Armenian-Georgian relations have been on a significant rise and are moving forward in a spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Foreign Minister Nalbandian briefed the guest on the efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to create conducive conditions for the advancement of settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and in this context highly appreciated Georgia's continuous support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

The sides discussed numerous issues related to the expansion of cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, energy, development of transport infrastructure, tourism. They also touched upon the issue of improving the existing comprehensive legal basis between the two states, which today includes more than 80 documents.
During the talks, the interlocutors reflected upon the concerns of the Georgian-Armenians and the steps being undertaken towards addressing them.

A number of urgent regional and international issues were touched upon.
