28 April, 2017

On April 28, a regular senior officials meeting of the EU Eastern Partnership /EaP/ was held in Brussels, in which the representatives of six partner countries and the EU member states took part. The delegation of the Republic of Armenia was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Garen Nazarian.

The aim of the meeting was to reflect upon the effectiveness of the EaP format and to discuss the suggestions on possible structural changes ahead of the EaP summit to be held in Brussels in November.

In his speech Deputy Foreign Minister briefed on the latest developments, in particular, the initialling of the new framework agreement, and attached an importance to the adoption of the Armenia-EU partnership priorities in the near future. Garen Nazarian spoke of the continuous economic cooperation and sectoral dialogue with the EU and underlined that it is one of the cornerstones of the EaP.

Speaking of the expectations of Armenia ahead of the summit, Deputy Minister attached great importance to the full implementation of joint commitments undertaken previously together with the EU member states, focusing, in particular, on the necessity to launch the Armenia-EU dialogue on visa liberalisation aimed at bringing communities closer to each other, thus creating a safe and effective environment for mutual contacts.
