Head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia received the Chairman of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee

On 25 May, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament (EP), headed by the Committee Chairman David McAllister. The members of the delegation represented the six large factions of the EP.


The speakers valued the current level of Armenia-EU cooperation expressing confidence that the Comprehensive and Enhanced Cooperation Agreement regulating the legal framework of Armenia-EU relations, which has been initialled in Yerevan in March 2017 and is envisaged to be signed at the Eastern Partnership Summit in November, will bring the bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

Edward Nalbandian highly appreciated the results of the 17th Armenia-EU Cooperation Council that took place on 23 May in Brussels.

During the meeting the Parliamentary elections held on 2 April 2017 were touched upon. The Acting Foreign Minister underlined that the elections were unprecedented in terms of the scope of presence of observers from various countries, international organisations as well as the EU, who stated that the elections were well organized, fundamental freedoms were respected and the results of the elections reflected the will of the people. The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry expressed his gratitude to the European Union for the financial and technical assistance aimed at ensuring the transparency of the electoral process.

Edward Nalbandian noted with satisfaction the high level of cooperation established between the National Assembly of Armenia and the European Parliament.

The speakers also touched upon the urgent regional and international issues.

Edward Nalbandian presented in details the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards advancement of the process of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and highlighted the principle position of the European Union of supporting the activities of the mediators.
