Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Estonia
13 June, 2017On June 13, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Sven Mikser, Foreign Minister of Estonia, who is paying an official visit to Yerevan.
The meeting started with the tête-à-tête conversation, then was continued in an expanded format, with the participation of delegations.
While greeting the guest, Minister Nalbandian noted, that in the 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Armenia and Estonia have engaged in a fruitful cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats, and that there is a willingness to jointly deepen that cooperation further.
Foreign Ministers of two countries attached an importance to arranging high level visits, expanding the legal framework, holding regular consultations between the Foreign Ministries, deepening the collaboration in international organisations.
Ministers touched upon the interparliamentary collaboration, highlighted the importance of promoting the decentralised cooperation.
During the negotiations, the necessity of further developing the trade and economic relations, exploring new areas of cooperation, strengthening the ties between the business circles was emphasized. Particular attention was attached to the possibilities of expanding the cooperation in the IT sphere. Ministers focused also on cooperation between Armenia and Estonia in education, science and cultural spheres.
In the context of the upcoming Presidency of Estonia in the European Union, Minister Mikser presented the priorities of the Estonian Presidency. Interlocutors touched upon Armenia - EU relations. Minister Nalbandian underlined, that during the Estonian Presidency in the European Union, at the upcoming summit in Brussels in November this year, a Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the European Union is expected to be signed.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed his Estonian counterpart on the joint efforts by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries towards creating appropriate conditions for advancing the peaceful settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Minister Nalbandian highlighted the importance of Estonia`s balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and unconditional support to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Estonia also focused on urgent international and regional issues, such as the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Syria and Iraq, as well as the issues related to fight against terrorism and migration flows.
Edward Nalbandian and Sven Mikser signed the Protocol on Implementation of the Agreement on Readmission between Armenia and European Union (Implementing Protocol) signed between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Republic of Estonia.
After the meeting, Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Estonia held a joint press conference.
