Ambassador Martirosyan presented his credentials to the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh

On July 6, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Bangladesh Armen Martirosyan presented his credentials to the Hon’ble President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Hamid.

During the private conversation following the ceremony, President Abdul Hamid noted that even though this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Bangladesh, the two peoples have more than four centuries long historical ties.

President Hamid emphasized the special cultural contribution of the Armenians in Bengal and pointed out several remarkable examples. In particular, he noted that the first Bengali school, which functions as an educational establishment till date, was founded by Armenians, the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Holy Resurrection (built in 1781) is active in Dhaka today, the Armenian district Armanitola and the Armenian street are located in the centre of the city, and the area, where now the Presidential Residence is located, belonged to the Armenian merchant named Manuk two centuries ago.

Expressing gratitude for warm reception and good wishes, Ambassador Armen Martirosyan noted that the historical ties between the peoples of two countries give a new impetus to the further development of bilateral relations.

In conclusion, President Abdul Hamid asked Ambassador to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
