06 July, 2017

On July 6, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Herbert Salber, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and for the crisis in Georgia.

Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to the EU Special Representative in details the situation created in the aftermath of the gross violations by Baku of the ceasefire regime on the Line of Contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan on July 4.

Foreign Minister once again highlighted the importance of unconditional implementation of the agreements reached at the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg aimed at overcoming the consequences of the Azerbaijan’s aggression last April accompanied with blatant violations of international humanitarian law and targeting of civilian population, as well as creating conducive conditions for the advancement of the negotiation process.

According to Edward Nalbandian, Baku, by undermining the implementation of the agreements reached at the high level and contrary to the calls and appeals of the Co-Chair countries and the international community, continues to deepen the propaganda of enmity and xenophobia, intentionally initiates provocations, which resulted in last month alone in the death of four servicemen of the Artsakh army.

The EU Special Representative expressed deep concern over the escalation of situation and underlined, that the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the principal position of the EU and the EU unconditionally supports the efforts of the Co-Chair countries to that end. Ambassador Salber highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements reached at the Vienna and St. Petersburg summits.

Herbert Salber informed that he is completing his mission as the EU Special Representative and emphasised that he will continue to closely follow the developments in the South Caucasus. Minister Nalbandian highly appreciated the activity of Ambassador Salber in his capacity of the EU Special Representative and wished him success in his future endeavours.
